A Liberal MP for Clackmannan and Kinross from 1880 1899, Balfour (1837 1905) held the offices of Solicitor General for Scotland (1880 1881), Lord Advocate (1881 1885, 1886, 1892 1895) and Lord Justice General (1899 1905).
