When Japan opened its doors to the West at the close of the nineteenth century, a fascination with the East began to shape European decorative arts for decades to come. In that spirit of Orientalism and in a richly naturalistic style, Christofle created this sculptural vase with two fish symmetrically intertwined, their bodies rising gracefully as they rest upon their tail flukes.
