Stereographs came into widespread use in the second half of the 19th century

There is one split toward to bottom of the slide top lid and another on the bottom of the box but it remains very sturdy and sound

I found this one at the estate sale of an avid art (and small animal) collector in Kansas City

The metal I believe is bronze

They came nicely preserved inside a large piece of paper with folded edges, with "Specimens of Sea Weeds for Mrs. Bindle" hand written on the front. There is a watermark on one piece dated 1852 with the printer
