George Bernard Shaw, Irish dramatist, critic and Fabian 20th American Election Nicholas Bacon (1509-1579) was aGeorge Bernard Shaw, Irish dramatist, critic and Fabian, 1893. The author of such well known works as Pygmalion and Saint Joan, Shaw (1856 1950) was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1925. A committed socialist, he also wrote numerous pamphlets on social and political issues, many of them published by the Fabian Society.
