Hand-painted Portrait Snuff Box scribble by the excellent but under-recognizedI love the history of gestures and body language as a vocabulary, and while much is lost on me, I've certainly seen many a pretty young woman portrayed with this raised hand gesture which, together with her deep blush and the bright yellow bow just below her corseted waist, signals both modesty and beckoning at the same time.
