Benton-esque Old Folk Art Slate Painting, House With Mill antique Belgian playing cards Dimensions: 27" l x 12I found this one in Western MA, probably not far form where it was painted I believe about 100 years ago on a school slate well older that that, with initials carved into the wood on one side. What struck me especially was the palette and gesturally painted passages of near abstraction, unusual in my experience for a folk painting on slate, and immediately making me think of Thomas Hart Benton.
